HAUS ALKIRE
HAUS ALKIRE is the partnership between Julie Haus and Jason Alkire. The duo has worked and designed together on various projects for the better part of a decade. Haus is the consummate fashion designer while Alkire is an artist and photographer. Together the partners strive to merge fashion with art.
Haus is self-taught, and has been designing for several years. She is the designer behind Julie Haus and through this line she has been sold in over 200 stores throughout the world. Prior to becoming a designer she was the editor-inchief of Spoon, a luxury publication distributed by Time Warner. Haus, Alkire, and a handful of their professional creative friends founded the publication.
Alkire has been a photographer, painter, and graphic designer for most of his life. These skills turned him into an executive in advertising and allowed him to do special photography projects for himself. He also served as the creative director over all of Spoon Media’s properties, including Spoon magazine.
HAUS ALKIRE was granted the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation award for womenswear for 2012. The award is considered by many to be one of the highest in the fashion industry for promising talent. Distinguished alumni of the EDFF award include Alexander Wang, Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, Derek Lam, Peter Som, Rodarte, Prabal Gurung, and Pamela Love.
The designers were also recognized in 2012 as one of W Hotels Fashion Next. The program, run by Jenné Lombardo, hosts fashion presentations during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at The Box in Lincoln Center. Under the program HAUS ALKIRE will debut their Fall 2012 Collection. Lombardo and her team also work with the designers on special projects to promote and grow labels. Bibhu Mohapatra, Michael Angel, Mara Hoffman, Mandy Coon, and Tess Giberson are past members of the program. The partners have a boutique in the lower SoHo shopping district. Their flagship offers the HAUS ALKIRE collection and collaborative accessory pieces from up-and-coming milliner and jewelry designers. The shop also displays the HAUS ALKIRE home collection and artwork – based on Alkires’ custom prints. The HAUS ALKIRE boutique is located at 458 Broome Street, New York, New York 10013.
